Show 07/11/2010

Hey!
Here's this week's show. Shaky start but it gets better after that.

Good Luck - Man on Fire
Trash Kit - Fame
Animals that Swim - Kitkats & Vinegar
Schema - Echolalia... Curvilinear
Sackville - If His Shadow Moves on the Water
Black Flag - Wasted
Shrag - Furnishings
Long Fin Killie - The Lamberton Lamplighter
Swirlies - In Harmony, New Found Freedom
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Heart in Your Heartbreak
Shellac - The End of Radio

mp3

My top pick for this week is that Long Fin Killie song: check out their albums if you get the chance.

Until next time!

  1. Here's Rob's succinct track comments/stream of consciousness thoughts of this week:

    Good Luck: Hmm ok.
    Trash Kit: Poo.
Animals that Swim: really good, gotta search out more by these guys.
Schema: Really like this. Is their other stuff mostly the same? (I see they only have 1 record, might just download it).
Technical Error: WIN. Best part of the show so far.
Sackville: If I saw the singer of this band I'd hit him in his ball-sackville. Actually it was quite pleasant, I just wanted to make use of that awesome zing.
2 songs in a row?! Is this a first for MPADJs?
Black Flag: I'm not appreciating the compressed sounding guitars. That's all I have to say.
Dasal editing? Dasal couldn't edit his way out of a paper bag. I do the edits.
Just looked up that Animals That Swim record. What the fuck is that cover? I don't want to listen to it anymore.
Shrag: An abbreviation for 'shit rag' I take it? OH ZING ONCE MORE. Actually this is a really good song, have they always been like this? I remember them being much more annoying.
Long Fin Killie: More like Long Thin Willy!!!!! Oh somebody stop me! OK this is great. Might check out that Buttergut EP because I like the name.
everybody's a slack-jawed bitch is the way I see it.
searching 'Long Fin Killie' on youtube returns 7 videos. None of them live. Pathetic.
SWIRLIES!! WHAT A REVELATION!! This is some classic awesome. Maybe even Proto-awesome. Or proto-proto-awesome since we haven't invented proto-awesome yet. I'm definitely downloading these guys right now.
Haha they have an EP called Brokedick Car. Gonna check that one out.
Pains: I really like this single, definitely one of their best songs yet. Maybe THE best. That is all.
Shellac: Did they just decide to record a routine soundcheck and call it a song? Oh shit halfway through and now we're talking. I can hear you now."Is it really broadcasting if there's nobody there to receive?" is a question you've probably asked yourself many times eh Edwin? (I know I have).
Good show overall. Time to go on to the next one.

  2. Some "classic" ZINGs indeed.
Schema is all like that, really good record. Yeah, download it.
Check out the second Shrag record, it's better than the first. But then you should have known that from my review anyway.
Buttergut is impossible to find (I don't think even you will be able to get mp3s) so download Valentino. It's better anyway. Seriously, one of the best records of the 90s.
First two Swirlies records are pretty awesome, like a bubblegum flavour Sonic Youth. Don't know that EP.
That Shellac song (like a lot of theirs) works on the builds. It gets amazing though. "There is no special girl!"
And yeah, that one line encapsulates the Rare FM experience I think. Maybe that should be our label minded tagline.

P.S. the best Pains single is Come Saturday. Better luck next time.
